Performance on the Course and in the Gym

Thirty JGAC members ages 7-18 gathered at CommonGround Golf Course to learn new skills about on-course performance on golf fitness. Here are a few snapshots from the day!

Increase Balance
In order to be the best golfer you can be, you must be the best athlete you can be! Simple things like practicing balance with pool noodles or playing "lava" in your living room can help young golfers develop strength to increase balance. Potato sack races and leap frog can help develop explosion throughout the golf swing, and throwing balls will increase speed which will translate into swing speed.

Develop Physical Awareness
Being aware of your body and how it's connected is important and translates directly to the golf swing. Most golfers have a tight or weak side. It's important to train both sides of the body! A perfect example is this: when a right handed golfer's left side is tight, they will struggle with their follow through.

Commit to the Shot
After you've thought about your shot, you must commit to it! This helps players to swing more freely and to be free of all the external and internal chatter that golfers experience mid-swing.

Explore BTT
Practice doesn't always have to be mechanical! You might find your best play box (swing thought) in something that seems unconventional like focusing on your Balance, Tempo or Tension. Practice hitting shots off of one foot and with your shoes off to explore Balance. Hit shots at 25%, 50% or 90% tempo to explore Tempo. Practice releasing tension in your jaw, and hitting shots with different grip pressure to explore Tension. These three facets can help you swing freely and be more present during your shot.
