The Path to Golf Improvement is Three Stages

The Path to Golf Improvement is Three Stages

Posted on February 28, 2017

Junior golfers today have so many ways that they can learn about and emulate their favorite players. Extended television coverage of events, FaceBook, YouTube and Instagram all provide ways to dive inside the lives and performance of players from around the globe. I am not so sure that with a little research I can likely find out what Rory McIlroy had for lunch yesterday.

If watching your favorite players has pushed you towards a dream to be a competitive junior golfer, no matter the level, then you need an understanding of the three stages of attaining this goal. The stages are:
  1. Wanting to get to a certain level
  2. Believing you can get to that level
  3. Actually attaining that level

Simply deciding to become a competitive junior golfer is the first step. Putting golf above the many recreational options you have begins the journey.

Developing the proper mindset that will allow you to chase your dream is one that will be constantly challenged throughout your development. Simply put…golf is a hard game. Keeping a proper perspective with an eye on focusing on the process and not the results is a key approach. Believe and you will achive.

Are you star stuck watching Lydia Ko as she drives it straight and seems to hole putts from everywhere? Does it lead you to the desire to achieve greatness? I hope it does as that is what watching Jack Nicklaus did to me as an aspiring player. Please keep in mind the hard work and dedication that is necessary in achieving a championship worthy level of play…endless hours of practice and play. In golf you can’t wish or fake your way through the demands of improvement.

Gaining momentum in times of success and staying the path when struggling both demand a proper perspective and a great deal of persistence. As in life and certainly in golf, success never comes easy. Your time and effort towards improving your golf game are a reflection your overall commitment. Train and track this commitment and success will come your way.

The game of golf can provide you with rewarding experiences that will help you grow into outstanding individuals. Enjoy the ride!
