Do you love golf as much as we do? Would you like to continue to be around the sport for years to come? If so then you should look at making golf your career. The PGA Golf Management program is a great avenue for students to earn a college degree all while working their way through the PGA of America's certification to become a PGA Member. We have a number of successful PGA Golf Management graduates in Colorado and we are very lucky to have a PGM school in the state – UCCS in Colorado Springs.  We have asked several Colorado natives who grew up playing junior golf in Colorado about their PGM experience.

A UCCS graduate and PGA Member, Tristen Fay, is the Head Golf Professional at Fort Collins Country Club in Fort Collins, CO.. We asked Tristen a few questions about his PGM experience and here is what he had to say:

Why did you choose the PGM Program at UCCS?
“From the moment I stepped on campus at UCCS, I knew I was at home. The scenic views were only upped by the staff and classmates. As I was applying to various PGM Programs, only UCCS made me feel that I would benefit from the education I received there, but that I could contribute to the growth of the program.”
What is your overall impression of the PGM Program at UCCS?
“I received an outstanding education inside and outside of the classroom at UCCS. The PGM programed prepared me for (a) career after graduation and I was able to transition seamlessly into life after college.”
In your opinion, what are the major benefits of attending the UCCS PGM Program?
“I learned business and professional skills in the classroom and had the opportunity to intern (at) two top-100 private clubs. I was able to build a strong professional network that opened an opportunity to work at The Masters Tournament for three years. I'm now the Head Golf Professional at Fort Collins CC, the premier family club in Northern Colorado.”
Why should junior golfers in Colorado consider going to the UCCS PGM Program?
“The PGM program at UCCS is one of the best in the country. The staff at UCCS (is) invested student’s success. The PGM program had in roads to a variety of career paths in the golf industry, not just at green grass facilities.”
What advice would you give to a junior golfer considering the PGM Program at UCCS?
“I believe the PGM program at UCCS was one of the best decisions I've ever made. It set me up for success as a PGA Professional but more importantly, I've made (lifelong) friends through that program. I've had experience only made possible through the PGM Program at UCCS.”

Through Tristen’s experience as a PGM graduate, he has had the opportunity to work at exclusive facilities such as Denver Country Club (Denver, CO), Southern Hills Country Club (Tulsa, OK), The Broadmoor Golf Club and Resort (Colorado Springs, CO) and he even worked The Masters at Augusta National Golf Club for three years. He feels as though “The PGM program prepared me with the business skills needed to contribute to my facilities success immediately upon graduation. My internships equipped me with customer service skills, interpersonal communication tools, and a sense of professionalism required to be a successful PGA Member.”
